Today Blackmill Games and M2h revealed new video for Isonzo, the upcoming FPS set in the trenches of World War I.

The videos are quite interesting as they compare the game’s two environments, particularly the Baruzzi Railway underpass and Mount Sabotino trenches, to their real-life counterparts in modern times.

You can watch both videos below.

The game is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and Xbox One in the summer of 2022.

Below you can read how the game is officially described by the developers.

Alpine War on the Italian Front

Isonzo takes place on the southern front of the Great War, immersing players in the titular conflict between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Inspired by the two-year struggle for the Isonzo River, Isonzo will deploy players to new WW1 battlefields that are beautiful but deadly in equal measure. The battle takes place between the beautiful peaks, rugged valleys and idyllic cities of northern Italy. A brand new offensive game mode puts players in the middle of major historical offensives on the Italian front, from high-altitude battles in the Alps to brutal battles for the Isonzo River.

New in WW1 game series

Developer and M2H co-founder Matt Hergarden said: “The Italian Front was the perfect opportunity for us to elevate the WW1 game series figuratively and literally! Alpine Battle in Isonzo brings a lot of new game mechanics to the series, plus all With the new Italian army facing off against Austria-Hungary. Can’t wait to share more of what we’re working on – there are many exciting revelations along the way!”

Isonzo is the third game in the WW1 game series, and introduces players to high-altitude alpine warfare in northeastern Italy. Tannenberg revolves around the massive maneuver warfare seen on the Eastern Front, and Verdun — the game that started everything — immerses players in intense close-quarters trench warfare on the Western Front.

Isonzo builds on the rock solid and authentic premise of the WW1 game series, taking Verdun’s intensity and mixing it with Tannenberg’s scale. It breaks new ground in the Alps with a complete feature overhaul – including a new historically driven game mode – to take the series to the next level and immerse players like never before!

authentic high altitude combat

Precisely crafted weapons, uniforms and sound effects will immerse players in the WW1 battlefield. Everything from the trench design and important sites in the Isonzo has been created from historical sources – from films and diaries to modern photographs of battlefields taken on research trips. The new offensive game mode challenges players to lead the charge in stunning Italian landscapes or build up their defense on dynamic battlefields. The tactical situation can change at any moment!

Respond to battlefield situations by choosing your role and loadout carefully: use rifle grenades to clear enemy strong points across the river, or use an officer’s handgun to prevent enemy engineers from cutting your strings. Call in a barrage of artillery in form. It is a battle for the fate of the nations, and both sides will unleash their vast arsenals of weapons. Players will handle everything from bayonets and machine guns to mortars and rifle grenades – if that’s not working, they can call in support for heavy artillery barrages, bombardment runs, or lethal poison gas.

The Great War on the Italian Front was brought to life and taken to unexpected heights! But remember – it is not the mountain we conquer, but the enemy.
