Uncle From Another World Rewinds Broadcast From October

Uncle is in trouble. The ongoing anime adaptation of Uncle From Another World has faced considerable production difficulties due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It’s hardly lonely, but these troubles have prompted the show’s production committee to take drastic measures, effectively suspending production indefinitely and resuming airing from the first episode. [Thanks, ANN!],

In update of Uncle From Another World anime official website, the committee announced that the anime would essentially shift the season from Summer 2022 to Fall 2022 in the middle of its run. The show will resume its airing from episode 1 on October 6, 2022. Seven episodes have already aired. Earlier in September, the committee delayed episode eight more indefinitely, citing a rapid increase in COVID-19 infections within animation studio Atelier Pontdark and its affiliate Animation House. The delay prompted a rerun of episodes 3 to 6 in September.

The change is primarily aimed at Japanese audiences, as Uncle From Another World is broadcast in Japan and on cable TV. Outside Japan, the show is Netflix-exclusive, meaning viewers can watch the seven current episodes at their leisure.

Uncle From Another World (aka Isekai Ojisan) is an adaptation of the manga by author Hotondoshindiru. The story follows the uncle of college student Takafumi, who fell into a coma 17 years ago. Takafumi is assigned to care for Uncle after waking up, only to find that Uncle had traveled to another world and became a hero while in his coma. Meanwhile, Takafumi needs to catch Uncle with all the things he missed, like smartphones, modern anime, and Sega’s fate after the console wars of the ’90s.
